Subcategories

After installation, the MathFEM plug-in will be available in the Grasshopper categories tab, and includes 9 subcategories for specific purposes. The order of the subcategories is intended to follow the common workflows for the generation of a Digital Twin from scratch.

These are the subcategories included within the MatchFEM plug-in:

Name
Description

01 MatchModels

Lets you initialize an IFC-BIM model of a building or a bridge, and add parameters such as the material of elements or the site of the project. In addition, opens an existing IFC-BIM model for editing.

02 MatchGeometry

The generation of IFC elements requires a specific type of geometric representation. MatchGeometry gathers the components that help users generate IFC geometric representations from geometries shaped in Grasshopper.

03 MatchElements

Enables the assembly of components to generate the geometry and parameters of IFC elements, such as beams, columns, plates, slabs, tendons, walls and any IfcElement.

04 MatchPlan

During the life cycle of a project, tasks need to be planned and tracked. This includes sensor measurements, construction activities, and maintenance actions. Implementing the IFC schema for planning, MatchPlan groups a series of components that let the user add scheduling data to an existing BIM and generate Bill of Quantities.

05 MatchIoT

IoT allows the management and storage of sensor-based data on the cloud. MatchIoT components enable adding IfcSensors to a BIM, link them to the corresponding IFC elements, and seamlessly configure and retrieve data from Arduino Cloud IoT platform. Additional IoT platforms can be incorporated on-demand, contact the creators for more details (hector.posada@upc.edu)

06 MatchProcessing

Raw sensor-based onsite data must be processed to extract meaningful insights. MatchProcessing is designed to group a variety of scripts that evaluate physical magnitudes and material properties from sensor data, enabling comparisons between real-world measurements and simulated values.

07 MatchStructure

This subcategory enables users to create structural models in compliance with the IFC Structural Analysis Domain. By reusing the same geometry defined in the BIM, simulations can be generated with greater accuracy and consistency. The resulting models can be imported into commercial structural engineering software with IFC integration, such as SAP2000 and ETABS.

08 MatchFriends

This subcategory is conceived as a set of converters that integrate the resulting BIM and structural models into other software platforms or classification systems, for instance Uniclass. It serves as the bridge between MatchFEM and other AECO software environments and frameworks.

09 MatchEdu

Developing Digital Twins in classrooms by matching measured and predicted values enhances students’ creativity and innovation skills while reinforcing key concepts. MatchEdu provides an open gateway to create educational experiments using Digital Twins. It allows for the reading of measurements from the serial port, which can originate from microcontrollers connected to various sensors.
